About Our Church
.

Seventh-day Adventists (Adventists) have been in Georgia since 1891 when the first church was built in Barwick.  In the early 1900s Adventists worshipped together in homes in the Valdosta area beginning with 10-12 people.  In 1924 an Adventist church was built on Ashley and Force Street.  The simple church had no heating, running water or indoor plumbing.  Visiting preachers traveled by train to provide services.  The church remained at this location until 1957 when it was sold to the Messiah Lutheran Church.  A new church was built at its present location on Slater Street.  One of the early pioneers, Frank Southall, helped to clear the land; Frank is still an active member of our church today.

The church is located on Slater Street, between Moore and College Streets, just one block from Valdosta State University.  The Slater Street church had its first baptism on March 28, 1958.  The Seventh-day Adventist Church of Valdosta is organized under the Georgia-Cumberland Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Our Mission..."Our mission is to provide a safe, friendly place where ALL can come as they are, to discover the joy of Christian living. Our Church is a family where everyone can develop their spiritual gifts successfully, sharing with others their purpose for life through leadership, love and transformation."

Our Target…To reach, through Jesus, people seeking scriptural guidance in Lowndes County, Georgia: former Seventh-day Adventists, Christians, non-Adventists, and the unchurched to help them become authentic and loyal Seventh-day Adventist Christians.

Our Goals…

1. Create a safe and caring environment for the church family
2. Train young people to face the challenges of today's world with maturity
3. Help expand their potential to the maximum, motivating their self-esteem and trust in God
4. Give them the opportunity to be an integral part in helping others seek scriptural truth and guidance
5. Strengthen their Biblical principles to be able to stand alone in a changing society.

Our Core Values (belief - integrity - standards - faith)

1. Our Biblical beliefs are not for sale. The church should be culturally relevant while remaining in the purity of the doctrine.

2. God is the one who builds on His Church through the Power of His Spirit and through our zealousness we will do well to all people.

3. This environment will be characterized by Love, Acceptance and Forgiveness.

4. Lost People matter to God, therefore, they ought to matter to us.

5. We will have a strong personal home life.

6. We intentionally focus more on meeting people's needs than on preserving or growing our institution.

7. We sincerely believe that prayer makes a critical difference in all that we attempt.

8. We believe that God challenges the youth to be mature.

Our Dreams…

1. We dream of church family with 200 members, who have committed themselves to the covenant of having a daily time with God.  Giving a weekly tithe to God.  Participating weekly in a team of small group pods.

2. We dream of church family as a network of 20 small groups within our church, providing support, encouragement, and accountability to each member as they seek to grow in Christ's likeness.

3. We intend to make available resources, tools, and training seminars for other churches.

4. We dream of developing a "Family Life Center" for our members and community offering a balance program to help our families to grow stronger and work together for a better tomorrow, by providing:  Spiritual Growth - Bible Studies, Emotional Support - Counseling, Physical Advice - Nutrition and Lifestyle Seminars, Family Resources - Educational Programs.

5. We dream of a church family as a group of visionary young and mature people being used by the power of God, as instruments to touch the world with love, healing, and the assurance of Jesus' second coming.
